Learning and understanding the Federal Regulations is not anywhere near the top of the list of things Instructors like to study in their off time. Or during their "on" time for that matter. So, what is it that is so unattractive to learning "the rules"?
In this presentation, you will learn what some of those items are, and how to overcome them as an instructor. You will also gain an understanding of how to introduce regulations to your clients in a way that will enhance their learning experience and grow their ADM skills.
Todd Shellnutt is a veteran pilot and flight instructor, whose main concentration in aviation is the training and professional development of flight instructors. Todd left the DPE community to work full time for ATP Flight School as the company's standardization manager, where he works with ATP staff and examiners across the country to help develop a more successful CFI Program for up and coming instructor applicants.
He holds a CFI, CFII, and MEI, with a Multi and Single ATP, an FAA Gold Seal, NAFI Master CFI, and AOPA's Best Flight Instructor for 2015. He holds a BS in Aviation Science and a MA in Leadership and Management from Liberty University.
Aaron Dabney earned his Flight Instructor certificate in 2009, and has been an active instructor ever since. He has provided more than 5,000 hours of instruction in more than 30 models of aircraft, mentoring pilots from their first hour through becoming accomplished instructors themselves, and all points in between.
Dabney grew up in an aviation family. His maternal grandfather Joe was a World War II fighter pilot, and much of his childhood was spent in the family J-3 Cub with his grandfather or his uncle Mark. Aaron completed his first solo in that Cub in 1999 and is now its caretaker.
Aaron is a 6-time NAFI Master Flight Instructor, owns a small flight school, and has served as an adjunct lecturer for Baylor University's Aviation Sciences program since 2010. He serves on NAFI's Board of Directors and serves in several volunteer roles including coordinating MentorLIVE.
Aaron lives in Waco, Texas with his wife of 20 years Alisa.
NAFI MentorLIVE is made possible through generous donations of our members, the aviation community, and our sponsors.
